Thriveworks Austin Life Coaching
Stop whatever you’re doing right now. Put your phone down, close the door and remove any other distractions from your awareness.
Take a few deep breaths, close your eyes and imagine that you’re suddenly living a life where your relationships are in order, your career is fulfilling and heading in a positive direction, and you feel genuinely content with where and who you are. Create a vivid mental image of what this would look and feel like, and try to be as detailed as possible.
Now, with this vision of your life in mind, ask yourself the following questions:
- Does your actual life look at all like your imagined one?
- What is different?
- What is the same?
- What can you do to help make that vision a reality?
The above exercise is similar to what’s called the “Miracle Question” in counseling and coaching. If you go through the exercise with an open mind and answer the questions honestly, you may find that your life isn’t what you hope it would be. That’s OK — many if not most people set high goals for themselves, goals they may dream about but never believe they can actually achieve. The point of the “Miracle Question” is to identify any potential disparity between your life now and the life you’d like to be, and the goal of the experienced life coaches at Thriveworks Austin is to help you figure out how to tackle what needs to happen in between.
What is Life Coaching
At Thriveworks, we see life coaching and counseling as two components of self-improvement that focus on distinct aspects of what it means to live a meaningful, fulfilling life. With a counselor, you’ll discuss your life’s issues and how past behavior and traumas have brought you to where you are today. With a life coach, you’ll analyze where you are currently in life, determine where you’d like to be in the near and distant future, and create a path that will bring you from one point to the other.
Areas in your life that you’ll analyze include:
- Physical environment
- Friends and family
- Personal growth
- Fun and recreation
You and your coach will rate where you are in each of these areas. You may express high levels of satisfaction in many, some or none of the categories, but what’s most important is that you’re honest about where you are right now, since growing from the point you’re at today is much easier than growing from a point you’ve yet to reach.
Your Future is Calling … Will You Answer?
It might feel like you’re in a rut right now, like all of your steps and achievements have been pre-determined and narrowed. We’re here to tell you that’s not at all the case.
As Eric Roth wrote in the screenplay for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,:
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.”
A Thriveworks Austin life coach is ready to help you re-discover your belief that anything is not only possible, but plausible.
